LOCAL ATTRACTIONS

Florida's beautiful gulf coast offers innumerable activities for fun in the sun. From beaches to boating to amuse-ment parks and great family attractions, St. Petersburg offers about anything you could want to enjoy.  Our Housing Director will assist you in arranging for whatever extracurricular activities your group is interested in, many of them at discounted rates.

Imagine spending your tournament off day relaxing at world famous Clearwater Beach, whether just catching some rays while contemplating football strategy, swimming in the warm waters, or snorkeling and exploring the underwater beauty that is the Gulf Of Mexico.

Or head to Tampa's Busch Gardens for a glorious day in the sun! Visit the Florida Aquarium and enjoy the marine life.

And for those "football junkies", our staff can arrange for a guided tour of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' Raymond James Stadium!

Ft. DeSoto Park: http://www.fortdesoto.com/servlets/Page/home
Ft. DeSoto Park is not only the largest park in the Pinellas County park system, but it was also voted "The Best Beach in America 2005." It has 900 acres consisting of five interconnected islands with over seven miles of waterfront including three miles of beach. A 235-site family camping area is one of the park's most popular amenities.

Other park features include: an 800-foot-long boat launching facility with five floating docks; two fishing piers - one on Tampa Bay and the other on the Gulf; large group picnic shelters; and a four-mile paved loop recreation trail, a favorite with cyclists.

Rich in history, a battery of 12-inch mortars and two British cannons of 1890 vintage are located at the fort for which the park was named. Ft. DeSoto Park is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

As a vacationland, St. Petersburg is truly enhanced by water and the incredible variety of things there are to do. We are a peninsula city surrounded by water and an intracoastal waterway.

Deep sea fishing party boats and private charters go out daily. There are sightseeing boating excursions, leisurely lunch and dinner cruises, Scuba diving adventures, and casino gambling aboard one of the pleasure boats that venture into international waters.

The Gulf of Mexico is generally calm yet there is enough breeze for windsurfing and parasailing. Boat rentals are available as well as jet skis and wave runners.
